In this issue I have a very timely article on
the pros and cons of borrowing from your
401(k) in the current economy. We have added
a new Director of Client Relations, Lisa
Bauman, and I have included a short write up
on her. As usual, this newsletter also
includes a Funny Life Story, joke, and a
shameless self promotion on my Finance and
Accounting for Non-Financial Managers
course.
Cheers, Lucian

I know many of you have financial emergencies
brought on by the recession. So taking money
out of your 401(k) early is a thought that has
crossed many of your minds. Here are a few
thoughts on the subject. Let's assume you
have $300,000 of vested money in your 401(k)
and suddenly you have a bad thing happen to
you. You need $50,000 right now! Should you
raid your 401(k)?

This month we are pleased to announce the
addition of Lisa Bauman to our team as the
Director of Clients Relations. Lisa will be
ensuring that you, my wonderful clients, are
receiving all of the career and
life-improving benefits that you learn in my
courses.
The most important thing to know about Lisa
is that her favorite Accounting Professor
when she was an undergraduate student at
Baylor was none other than yours truly, Dr.
Lucian Conway. Although she made me promise
not to tell you what year she was in my
class.
In addition to her Accounting and Information
Systems degree from Baylor University, Lisa
is a CPA and holds an MS in Finance for the
Energy Industry from the University of
Houston. Lisa started her career doing
financial analysis and project management,
but eventually found that her true talents
were in the areas of communication,
leadership consulting, and company
improvement.
With her background, I am sure you can see
why we are so excited to have Lisa on board
and hope you will join us in extending a warm
welcome to her!

Locked Out at Percy Quinn Lake
I left work that day from Gloser,
Mississippi. I was headed for a fishing trip
to Percy Quinn State Park, which contained a
great fishing lake.
I was a brand new accountant with Ernst and
Ernst, an international accounting firm.

Poison
A little guy, named Boudreaux, is sitting at
the bar just staring at his drink for half an
hour when this big trouble-making biker steps
next to him, grabs his drink, gulps it down
in one swig and then turns to Boudreaux
with a menacing stare as if to say," What'cha
gonna do about it?"
Poor little old Boudreaux leans over on the
bar and starts crying.
"Come on, man. I was just giving you a hard
time," the biker says. "I didn't think you'd
CRY. I can't stand to see a man crying."
"This is the worst day of my life," says
Boudreaux between sobs. "I can't do anything
right. I overslept and was late to an
important meeting, so my boss fired me.
After my crawfish boil party, I went to the
parking lot, I found my car was stolen and I
don't have any insurance. I left my wallet in
the cab I took home. I found my wife in bed
with the gardener and my dog bit me.
So I came to this bar trying to work up the
courage to put an end to my life, and then
you show up and drink the poison."
